I remember Prof Brown from my days as an English major (2nd major). Among other things, one day he calledme & asked if I wantedto play a game of raquetball (at the old "raquetball plus" where our family had been members when I was a child). I hadn't played RB in ages, and was student teaching at the time (a tiresome task) but I agreed & showed up & found out he's like a raquetball pro...every serve like a gunshot. Needless to say he beat me...I was just left wondering what was the point? I thought he called out of a sense of comraderie, but the point was clearly to prove he was a superior raquetball player (by the way, this was while a few other members of the English dept sat & watched,& Prof. Henry Baron actually laughed,as if they had planned this together as a moment to try to humiliate me...question being why? Old school? ) God bless Dale Brown, but shame on him & the other professors for unnecessarily trying to humble me(I have already been profoundly humbled by many of life's circumstances).Nonetheless, thoughts & prayers for Dale Brown's family.
